A few week’s ago BMW kindly gave us the new 3 Series to have for a few days.

This is the brands longest running model, accounting for nearly a third of its annual sales.

Where do we start with this car? All I can say is wow!! What a great looking, sleek and well engineered car!

Let’s start with the looks. The 3 Series has been given a complete revamp from head to toe. The aggressive yet incredibly styled aesthetics of the car are a pleasure to look at. This luxury saloon has too many great points. Such as the new, standard high intensity LED headlights which not only look brilliant but make a big difference to your vision when driving at night. The chrome, twin tip tailpipes add to BMW’s stunning body styling and the amount of gadgets you get as standard is a huge improvement from previous models.

Compared to its predecessor, the new BWW 3 Series is significantly more aerodynamic, which contributes to a deduction in weight of around 55kg. This not only helps the beautiful way the car handles but reduces emissions killing two birds with one stone. A much sportier handling is felt with each turn of the wheel due to the tightened sport’s suspension.

The BMW comes in 3 different models. The SE, Sport and most popular M Sport. All models come standard with a BMW Navigation System, Rear View Camera, Parking Sensors and Folding Door mirrors which is something to shout about compared to past models.

You would need to upgrade to the Sport model for the bigger 18” alloy wheels but our favoured choice would be the M Sport model which you get BMW Live Cockpit (digital dials), apple car play, M Aerodynamics body styling a lots more! We would also advise on getting the ‘M Sport Plus Package’ which you get 19” M light alloy wheels, adaptive M suspension, sun protection glass, M Sport braking system, rear spoiler and M seat belts. Well worth the £2200 option from new.

The most popular engines will be the 320i and 320d which are the petrol and diesel equivalents. Both are 2.0 engines and very similar in terms of power. The 320i runs at 184bhp whilst the slightly more torque delivering diesel has 190bhp. A respectable combined figure of 51.4 mpg for the diesel and 40.4 for the petrol. So to the big question, does it compete with its arch-rival Mercedes-Benz C-Class Saloon and the Audi A4 Saloon?

Well in answer to the question its a very simple…YES!!

This car looks good all round. The body styling is eye turning, the interior is a huge improvement from BMW and the way that the car drives and handles through corners is nothing short of terrific.

Our verdict is if you are looking for a sporty, executive saloon to certainly give this a try!
